Destination Imagination teams win awards at 2021 regional contest

The Brainy Amigos from Bridgeland High School won first place in Improv—Case Closed at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament, which was held virtually throughout February. The team is advancing to the Lone Star Finals Affiliate State Tournament, which is being held virtually throughout March. March 11, 2021—Eleven CFISD Destination Imagination teams earned top-five victories at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament, held virtually throughout February. Teams competed in events for the opportunity to advance to the Lone Star Finals Affiliate State Tournament, which is being held virtually throughout March due to COVID-19.

Destination Imagination promotes team-building for students in kindergarten through 12th grade who form teams to solve a challenge that incorporates imagination, creativity, collaboration and fun. Teams create a skit with props and scenery that involve one of the following categories: Fine Arts, STEM, Project Outreach and Improvisation. Due to this year’s virtual format, teams were required to demonstrate advance technical skills, creativity and innovation in new ways.

Team DA Nerds from Rennell Elementary School won first place in Engineering—Built to Last at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament, held virtually throughout February. The following teams were Elementary Level winners:

·Team Wells Problem Solvers from Wells Elementary School placed third in Engineering—Built to Last;

·Team Bearkat Believers from Black Elementary School placed second in Engineering—Built to Last;

·Team Code Crew from Warner Elementary School placed fifth in Technical—The Next Level;

·Team Lightning Strike from Wells Elementary School placed fifth in Technical—The Next Level;

·Team DA Nerds from Rennell Elementary School placed first in Engineering—Built to Last; and

·Team Swenke Royal Nerds from Swenke Elementary School placed second in Technical—Built to Last.

Team Parkour Platypi from Spillane Middle School placed second in Scientific—The Theory at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament. Team Parkour Platypi from Spillane Middle School placed second in Scientific—The Theory at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament.

The following teams were Middle Level winners:

·Team Parkour Platypi from Spillane Middle School placed second in Scientific—In Theory;

·Team 7SciPats from Thornton Middle School placed fourth in Scientific—In Theory; and

·Team Team Ask Me from Aragon Middle School placed third in Improv—Case Closed.

The following teams were Senior Level winners:

·Team Majestic Firebreathing Toast from Cypress Ranch High School placed second in Technical—The Next Level and placed third in eXtreme.
