May 10, 2018—Emery Elementary School has received a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools award for the 2017-2018 school year, a recognition from the Flippen Group that honors campuses that go above and beyond in building an environment where students and staff feel safe and connected. The honor was the second in a row for the CFISD elementary campus.

Schools to earn the award were chosen based on criteria that includes survey results measuring staff implementation of Capturing Kids’ Heartsprocesses, campus culture and climate, significant improvement in attendance, discipline and academics, and students’ attitudes and connectedness to the campus. Nominated schools also received visited from Flippen Group representatives to observe, collect data and interview students, parents and staff.

Teams then measured the collected data and information to determine which schools met the criteria for Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schoolsawards.

Emery joined 122 other campuses across America in earning the distinction. The Flippen Group is a national professional development provider that uses research-based tools and processes combined with training to work with and help improve schools, companies, sports teams and non-profit organizations.

“We are so proud to be a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase school for the second year,” said Michelle Merricks, Emery Elementary School principal. “Our journey with Capturing Kids’ Hearts has helped us become a community of learners working together to embrace and encourage each other on a daily basis. We want to teach students early on how to treat others in a positive way and how to effectively deal with different situations that may arise throughout their lives. Capturing Kids’ Hearts has given us the tools we needed to create a campus culture of respect and kindness which has led, in turn, to minimized discipline issues and maximized academic achievement.”

In addition to public recognition, award winners will receive a banner to display or a sticker to add to a banner already earned, and a gift of three scholarships per school to attend Capturing Kids’ Hearts 2professional development.
