Nov. 16, 2018—Andrew Way, president and CEO of Exterran Corporation, and company representatives visited Lee Elementary School on Nov. 15, surprising the school staff in announcing the Houston-based oil and gas production company’s Adopt-a-School partnership with the campus.
CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools with community and business partners to utilize resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.
Andrew Way, president and CEO of Exterran Corporation, signs an Adopt-a-School partnership form, officially partnering the company with Lee Elementary School during a ceremony Nov. 15.
Exterran was proactive in seeking a way to invest into their neighboring schools, as representatives reached out to the Community Engagement Department, which in turn connected the company with Lee.
It was a no-brainer for Principal Susan Epperson and the elementary school, which is located roughly four miles from Exterran’s corporate headquarters.
“They told us that they are interested in mentoring and volunteering,” Epperson said. “They started a toy drive for us this week and they’re interesting in helping in any way they can. I’m just excited to see where this goes.”
Way and Exterran representatives brought cupcakes and goodie bags for the Lee staff as part of the surprise and partnership.
“Exterran is proud to partner with Lee Elementary School,” Way said. “We are excited to be here and look forward to developing a relationship with you that helps build the leaders and employees of tomorrow.

“We are a global company, with approximately 5,000 employees total and operations in about 30 countries all over the world. Where we have employees, we aspire to be a good neighbor. Our employees are engaged as volunteers helping schools, orphanages, environmental projects and so much more.”
The acknowledgement itself was enough for Epperson and her staff members, who responded to the news with a standing ovation for their new partners. But where it can grow is even more exciting, she said.
“The fact that they recognize the hard work that goes into teaching children and they want to support that time and effort is just an incredible gift,” Epperson said. “We’ll see where it goes, but them saying, ‘Hey, we want to invest in you with our time.’”
