FCCLA students win awards at 2018 regional competition

March 19, 2018—Students from four CFISD high school earned awards from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of American (FCCLA) regional competition, held Feb. 9-10 in Galveston, with most advancing to state competition.

FCCLA is one of the largest student-run organizations nationwide. With family as its central focus, the career and technical organization helps give members the ability to make differences in their families, careers and communities by addressing personal, work and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

The FCCLA state competition is April 5-7 in Dallas.

The following students brought home awards at the regional competition:

Jersey Village High School

  • Emily Frisch, senior – second place, Early Childhood Education;
  • Kaitlyn Edwards, senior – second place, Chapter Service Project Portfolio; and
  • Sarah Lopez and ReAnna Brown, seniors – third place, Chapter Service Project Display.

Cypress Springs High School

  • Daniella Almazan and Kayla Taylor, seniors – second place, Chapter Service Project Display.

  • Azariah Haro and Avery Gonzalez, juniors – first place, Chapter Service Display Project (Sole Hope);
  • Iran Gonzalez, senior – first place, Early Childhood Event; and
  • Megan Bucklin and Michelle Martinez, juniors – second place, Focus on Children.
