Dec. 19, 2017—Football players representing 10 CFISD high school qualified for the Texas Army National Guard/Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) 2017 Academic All-State Football Team, released Dec. 1.
To be considered for academic all-state recognition, students were required to meet the following standards:
The THSCA also considers each student’s class rank, SAT and/or ACT score when reviewing nominations. Students can earn First Team, Second Team, Honorable Mention and Elite Team status. Honorees must have near-perfect scores in all categories to make the Elite Team.
Cy-Fair High School senior Patrick Atkinson (No. 30) was one of 14 CFISD football players to qualify for the THSCA Academic All-State First Team.
“The CFISD Athletic Department is very proud of the 52 young men that qualified for this team. It shows they understand and place a high value on what it means to be a student athlete,” said Kirk Eaton, associate director of athletics. “We are very appreciative of the support they get from their families, coaches, teachers, and administration when it comes to balancing academics and athletics.”

Cypress Ranch High School senior Riley Zepeda (No. 4) was one of 14 CFISD football players to qualify for the THSCA Academic All-State First Team.
Langham Creek High School senior Brad Pinkerton (No. 42) was one of 14 CFISD football players to qualify for the THSCA Academic All-State First Team.
