Feb. 16, 2018—All four CFISD girls’ basketball teams swept through the first two rounds of the Class 6A playoffs, setting up two all-CFISD regional quarterfinal matchups to be held Feb. 20 at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress).
Here’s a summary of each team’s playoff road:
Following a 68-51 win over Fort Bend Hightower in the area round, Cypress Ranch High School returns to the Region III-6A quarterfinals after reaching the UIL state tournament in 2017.
The third-round doubleheader begins with Cypress Ranch facing Jersey Village at 6 p.m. The teams split their series in district play, with each winning on its home floor.
Cypress Creek and Langham Creek will follow with their game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Cougars won the only meeting between the two teams in league play.
Jersey Village High School has victories over Houston Bellaire and Katy Seven Lakes in the Class 6A postseason and will face Cypress Ranch in the Region III quarterfinals.
“We are so proud of our four playoff teams,” said Ray Zepeda, CFISD director of athletics. “They have each played with the type of competitive excellence that we have come to expect of CFISD female basketball programs. I certainly hope that the Cypress community comes out to support these four outstanding programs on Tuesday night as they play for spots in the regional tournament.”
Tickets for both playoff games will be sold at the gate for $5 each (adults and students).
Langham Creek High School defeated Fort Bend Ridge Point 72-62 in the area round Feb. 15, sending the Lobos to the Region III-6A quarterfinals for a second consecutive season.
