Aug. 23, 2019—Jim Brown, CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, and hospital representatives visited Cypress Falls High School on Aug. 19 to announce the neighboring hospital’s Adopt-a-School partnership with the campus.

CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools with community and business partners to utilize resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.

The union is special to Cypress Falls as it is the first adoption for the 27-year-old campus.

“We really believe at Cypress Falls that we educate the whole child and we don’t just focus on academics,” Cypress Falls Principal Becky Denton said. “We say here all the time, ‘We don’t teach math, we don’t teach science and we don’t teach sports. We teach kids.’ And we use those things – math, science and others – to do so. Knowing that we have additional people to come in and help us, we can really invest in the lives of our kids.”

Proximity played a factor in forging this new relationship – Cypress Falls and HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress are located less than one mile apart. With the school just minutes away from the hospital, mentoring opportunities and other relationships can easily be forged, Brown said.

“It’s important that we assert ourselves and certainly education is an area where many of us have passion,” Brown said. “It allows us to reciprocate as the school itself is very active for us in things like the health and science programs.”

“We’re just real excited because of the opportunities that we’re going to have for our students and our staff,” Denton said. “We’re all in this together and it’s not just the school raising students. It’s families, it’s community and it’s all of us working together.”
