The Jersey Village High School boys’ water polo team won the TISCA East Region Water Polo championship, claiming its third consecutive regional title in advancing to state.
April 27, 2018—Jersey Village High School swept the boys’ and girls’ water polo regional championships at the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (TISCA) East Region Water Polo Tournament, held April 19-21 at the CFISD Natatorium.
“The athletes have embraced the work required to excel,” said Stuart Webb, Jersey Village water polo coach. “They put in countless hours during the summer and after school to improve as individuals and as a team.”
The Jersey Village boys defeated Houston Westside 16-4 in the championship game for their third consecutive regional title. The Falcons and Westside, along with third-place Houston Strake Jesuit and fourth-place Houston Memorial. The TISCA State Water Polo Tournament is set for May 4-5 at the Texas Swim Center in Austin.
“For them, playing in the title game is the expectation,” Webb said. “This was the goal for the entire year and they were able to achieve their goal.”
The Jersey Village High School girls’ water polo team advanced to the TISCA State Water Polo Tournament after capturing the East Region title.
Jersey Village senior Aaron Jacobs was named the East Region’s Most Valuable Player. The following CFISD athletes were named to the All-Region first, second and honorable mention teams:
First Team: senior Alexander Hunt, Jersey Village; and junior Leon Trevor, Cypress Creek;
Second Team: senior Vucurovic Aleska, Cy-Fair; and
Honorable Mention: junior Sergio Baeza, Jersey Village; junior Joseph Ebeweber, Jersey Village; and sophomore Gerow Jacob, Cypress Ridge.
The Jersey Village girls defeated Langham Creek 12-6 for the regional title, with both advancing to the state tournament as well as third-place Houston St. Agnes and fourth-place Houston Memorial.
“This year’s group has a great deal of senior leadership,” Webb said. “We start five seniors (out of seven players). We went into the year with the goal of winning the regional title and were blessed to achieve our goal.”
Webb was named the East Region Girls’ Coach of the Year. Jersey Village junior Katie Hill was named the region’s Most Valuable Player. The following CFISD athletes were named to the All-Region first, second and honorable mention teams:
First Team: senior Maggie Montgomery, Jersey Village; senior Sophie Oliver, Langham Creek; and junior Kayla McQeen, Cypress Creek;
Second Team: senior Bailey Davis, Jersey Village; junior Katrina Nielson, Langham Creek; and senior Gabrielle Greaney, Cy-Fair; and
Honorable Mention: sophomore Katie Knight, Jersey Village; senior Brooke Sontag, Jersey Village; senior Grace Carey, Langham Creek; sophomore Abbey Spence, Cy-Fair; senior Dalton Courtney, Cy-Fair; senior Jeryn Demeterio, Cypress Lakes; and sophomore Hannah Vacek.
