June 26, 2019—Soccer players at Labay Middle School received new equipment worth more than $6,000 from the Justin J. Watt Foundation in March.

The foundation gave the school new soccer jerseys and pinnies, soccer goals and balls from Gopher Sports to support the school’s Soccer Start program.

The donations came as the result of Leslie Thomas, Labay’s academic achievement specialist, applying for a grant to help the school’s Soccer Start program. The grant was approved by the foundation and the equipment was delivered in March.

“Our students were elated when they saw the brand-new equipment,” said Lanette Bellamy, Labay principal. “The fancy new uniforms also added that extra bit of pride needed for a winning season.”

The Justin J. Watt Foundation provides after-school opportunities for middle-school aged children to become involved in athletics, so they can learn character traits of accountability, teamwork, leadership, work ethic and perseverance. In CFISD, the foundation has previously donated to Club Rewind ROCKS and Hopper, Anthony, and Arnold middle school’s soccer programs, as well as Dean Middle School athletics.
