Kahla MS principal named TASSP Region 4 Principal of the Year

Virgil Maddox, Kahla Middle School principal, was named the TASSP Region 4 Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year. Maddox was also a state finalist for Texas Middle School Principal of the Year.

June 18, 2019Virgil Maddox, Kahla Middle School principal, was named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region 4 Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year during a ceremony at the Hilton Austin Downtown Hotel on June 11.

“Anytime you receive an award of this magnitude, it’s an honor,” Maddox said. “I’m being honored with this award because of the diligence and hard work of my staff.”

As a Region 4 winner, Maddox was eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Middle School Principal of the Year—an honor awarded to Tim Lambert, Region 8 Middle School Principal of the Year, during the same ceremony held at the Hilton Austin Downtown Hotel on June 11.

Maddox has served as Kahla principal since December 2016 and has 16 years of experience in education. Prior to being named principal at Kahla, Maddox was an assistant principal and director of instruction at Cypress Springs High School.

TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from Texas’ 20 regional education service centers. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based on exemplary performance and outstanding leadership.
