Feb. 17, 2014—The CFISD 75th Anniversary committee has announced that KPRC Local 2 anchor and reporter Rachel McNeill will serve as emcee for the Diamond Jubilee event on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road).

The Diamond Jubilee, sponsored by Caldwell Companies and Cy-Hope, will be the first big event to kick off the 75th anniversary of CFISD. The celebration will feature the unveiling of the 75 honorees who have impacted “Our children, our schools and our community” in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD throughout its 75-year existence.

McNeill, a 1992 graduate of Cypress Creek High School, said she is excited about participating in the historical gathering.

“I am thrilled and honored to have been invited to emcee Cypress-Fairbanks ISD's 75th Anniversary event,” she said. “The educators and administrators at CFISD helped me become the person I am today, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a graduate of what I believe to be the best school district in the nation.”

McNeill received a broadcast journalism degree from the University of Texas upon graduating from Cypress Creek. She began a career that took her to television stations in New Orleans, Raleigh, N.C. and Midland, Texas, before she returned to Houston with KPRC Local 2—Houston’s NBC news affiliate—in September 2001.

She frequently covers big stories for KPRC, including the the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia; the Newtown tragedy; the West plant explosion; and the 2013 Presidential Inauguration.

Tickets for the Diamond Jubilee celebration will go on sale this spring. The event will follow a social/party format complete with hors d'oeuvres, a bling/frosting station, decade displays from the district, student-created decorations and much more.
