26th annual Livestock Show and SaleCypress Woods High School freshman Emily Taylor had the Grand Champion Steer at the CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $15,000 to Jarrar & Company, Inc.

Feb. 19, 2020—CFISD students and the high school FFA programs showcased another successful CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale on Feb. 6-8 at the CFISD Exhibit Center. The show and sale is now in its 26th year, growing from five high schools to approximately 900 entries representing 12 campuses.

The CFISD community continued showing an incredible amount of generosity in the live auction, freezer sale and via additional monetary contributions to students.

The project sold for $6,000 to the Stone Family. The amount set a new record at the event.

The Premium Sale (live auction) officially raised $258,700. Proceeds from the Freezer Sale (animals not placing high enough for the live auction), Agriculture Mechanics and Horticulture silent auction and additional gifts to students brought the sale’s total to $602,170. This also includes almost $5,000 in scholarships and prizes to the winners of the Livestock Royalty contest, where the King, Queen, Mr. Teen, Miss Teen and Top Hand were determined. In addition, two new records were set as the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion horticulture projects were sold in the Premium Sale for the first time this year:

  • The Stone family paid $6,000 for the Grand Champion horticulture fresh flower arrangement exhibited by Kayla Key (Cypress Woods); and
  • John Fox Chamber Herd paid $3,000 for the Reserve Champion horticulture silk flower arrangement exhibited by Angel Thornton (Cy-Fair).

“The number of livestock show entries continues to increase from year to year. The parking lot remained full throughout the show and sale as family, friends and the community came out to support the students,” said Denise Kubecka, director of the career and technical education department. “From cheering the students on in the stands to purchasing their projects at the sale, the support of our community rewards and validates the efforts of our students and makes each show something our students will remember for a lifetime.”

  • Show King – Ryan Rhodes from Cypress Woods FFA;
  • Show Queen – Brooke Blackshear from Cypress Ranch FFA;
  • Mr. Show Teen – Blake Schmeling from Cypress Creek FFA;
  • Miss Show Teen – Ashlynn Patterson from Cypress Woods FFA; and
