April 18, 2019—Sean McAuliffe, head football coach and athletic coordinator for Converse Judson High School, has been named the Cypress Ranch High School campus athletic coordinator and head football coach. McAuliffe replaces Gene Johnson, who took over the boys’ athletic coordinator and head football coaching positions in Waller ISD in March.

McAuliffe has 20 years of coaching experience, including four in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD where he served as an assistant football coach and special teams coordinator at Jersey Village High School from 2004-2008. As a head football coach, McAuliffe has a 54-13 career record at Converse Judson, five Class 6A Division I postseason appearances, two state semifinal berths, one state quarterfinal appearance and one outright district championship. He was named the 2014 San Antonio Express-News Coach of the Year.

“We are happy to have Coach McAuliffe join our coaching family at Cypress Ranch,” said Ray Zepeda, CFISD director of athletics. “He has a strong track record of success and his philosophies closely align with our belief in utilizing athletics to make a difference in student’s lives. He will be a great fit at Cypress Ranch and will help to build on the solid foundation that has already been established at Cypress Ranch. We look forward to having him start working with the Ranch athletes and coaches on Monday.”

Prior to Converse Judson, McAuliffe coached and taught at Austin Akins (2000-2001), Austin Lake Travis (2001-2003), San Antonio Holmes (2003-2004), Jersey Village and Kerrville Tivy (2008-2012) high schools. He has been part of 13 playoff teams, including 11 in a year, and six outright or shared district championships. A Converse Judson graduate, McAuliffe won a state championship as a player in 1992 and joined the staff as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator in 2012 before he was named head football coach two years later.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Sean McAuliffe to the Mustang family,” Cypress Ranch Principal Mike Maness said. “His energy and enthusiasm for developing student-athletes was evident from the first time I met him. I am confident that he will continue to work hard and build upon the foundation that has been established in our athletic program.”

McAuliffe earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Angelo State University and a Master of Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University.

“My family and I are truly blessed and extremely excited to join Mustang Nation,” McAuliffe said. “To have the opportunity to build upon such a strong foundation of high performing academic and athletic programs is a dream come true. We look forward to immersing completely in the pride of the northwest side of CFISD. Go Stangs!”
