National Merit Scholars, College Board Scholars honored at recognition program

May 3, 2021—One hundred thirty-nine CFISD students were honored as National Merit Scholars or College Board National Recognition Scholars and recognized at a National Merit recognition program on April 29 at the Berry Center.

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Of nearly 1.5 million entrants to the Merit Program, approximately 50,000 qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Those honorees placed among the top percentage of student who entered the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year.

Bridgeland High School’s National Merit Scholars are Caleb Austin, Mark Bentick, Smitha Bhagavatula, James Cheng, Andres Corrales, Luke Delancey, Benjamin Guzman, Natalie Herrick, Samika Iyer, Rohit Jha, Alexander Judd, Ananya Kaalva, Yule Kim, Jacob Martin, John McMahon, Connor Mogford and Joleigh Underwood.

Cy-Fair High School’s National Merit Scholars are Porter Albrecht, Kay Grein, Rachel Kusumo, Kathrynn Lightfoot, Catherine Liu, Beau Matthews, Jwalanthi Ranganathan, Kendall Royer and Saniya Shaju.

Cypress Creek High School’s National Merit Scholars are Samhitha Bandi, Kevin Lam, Quoc Nguyen and Robert Pham.

Cypress Falls High School’s National Merit Scholars are Emma Alexander, Sharon Han and Kayla Ressler.

Cypress Lakes High School’s National Merit Scholars are Christina Nguyen and Jennifer Nga Nguyen.

Jersey Village High School’s National Merit Scholars are Michael Chan, Yen Nhi Ha, Dennis Nguyen, Lily Nguyen and William Southerland.

Langham Creek High School’s National Merit Scholars are Patrick Brannen, Aadarsh Narayan, Christine Nguyen, Leanh Nguyen, Lauren Sharkis, Sophia Tran and Christopher Vu.

COLLEGE BOARD NATIONAL RECOGNITION PROGRAM

To create pathways to college for underrepresented students, the College Board National Recognition Program honors and recognizes high-achieving students who are African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural area or small town. Those scholars who excelled on their PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10 or Advanced Placement Exams are encouraged to apply for academic recognition as part of the College Board National Recognition Program.
