Jan. 8, 2020—Nineteen CFISD wrestlers won medals, including three who claimed individual championships, in their respective weight classes at the 18th annual CFISD Invitational, held Jan. 3-4 at the Berry Center.

The Cypress Ranch High School boys’ team finished as the district’s highest-placing representative. The Mustangs placed third, giving them three consecutive top-10 finishes after placing ninth in 2018 and 2019. They scored 163 points to finish behind Southlake Carroll (189.5 points) and Rockwall (168).

“The success we had this past weekend was amazing, considering we only entered two seniors and did not enter in three of the 14 weight classes,” said John Lopez, Cypress Ranch boys’ wrestling coach. “We had several top-four finishers but also points contributed by kids who had to fight their way on the back side. I am so proud of the way our wrestlers represented the whole program. We have some talented and hard-working kids in the practice room. This tournament was a good barometer to forecast how we can compete statewide.”
