Seven schools emerge from district One-Act Play zone competitions

March 16, 2018—Six school productions advanced from the UIL District 17-6A One-Act Play zone competitions on March 8-9 to the final district competition, scheduled for March 20 at 3 p.m. at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road). In addition, Bridgeland High School’s production of Argonautika advanced to the District 20-5A One-Act Play, scheduled for March 20 at approximately 2:40 p.m. at Tomball High School (30330 Quinn Road, Tomball).

The following Class 6A schools advanced from Zone I:

  • Cypress FallsComedy of Errors;
  • Cypress WoodsThe Grapes of Wrath; and
  • Langham CreekMoby Dick.

The following schools advanced from Zone II:

  • Cypress CreekReckless;
  • Cypress LakesA Company of Wayward Saints; and
  • Cypress RanchThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

The cast and crew of Bridgeland High School’s production of Argonautika advanced to the District 20-5A One-Act Play competition, scheduled for March 20 at Tomball High School.

In Zone I, Cypress Woods senior Jax Collum was named Best Actor for the role of Tom Joad and Cypress Woods senior Alison Wine was named Best Actress for the role of Ma.

The following students were named to the Zone I All-Star Cast:

  • Julian Sedeno, Jersey Village – Hamlet;
  • Nico Castillo, Cypress Falls, Dromio of Syracuse;
  • Nicole Rojas, Langham Creek – Starbuck;
  • Fiona Beeton, Cypress Ridge – Helen Keller;
  • Ronaldo Reyes, Cypress Falls – Dromino of Ephesus;
  • Carrington Strauss, Cypress Woods – Pa;
  • Treasure Blackburn, Langham Creek – Captain Ahab; and
  • Kyle Homrighausen, Cypress Woods – Man Going Back.

The following students were named to the Zone I Honorable Mention All-Star Cast:

  • Efrain Gonzalez, Cypress Ridge – James;
  • Remi Caruso, Langham Creek – Pip;
  • Dylan Shaw, Cypress Falls – Angelo;
  • Ryan Brooks, Jersey Village – Ophelia;
  • Kelley Davila, Cypress Falls – Adriana;
  • Juan Padron, Jersey Village – Claudius;
  • Kylie Gutierrez, Langham Creek – Ishmael; and
  • Allison Giles, Cypress Ridge – Annie Sullivan.

The following students earned Best Technician honors in Zone I:

  • George Joubran, Jersey Village;
  • Malachi Guerrero, Langham Creek;
  • Riley Burke, Cypress Woods;
  • Laura Mitchell, Cypress Falls; and
  • Matthew Potter, Cypress Ridge.

Cypress Woods students Riley Burke, Marcus Gray, Alexandra Hutson, Isabela Arboleda-Ocoro and Grace Womack were named Best Technical Crew.

In Zone II, Cypress Ranch senior Morgan Simon was named Best Actor for the role of Christopher and Cy-Fair sophomore Emily Dobney was named Best Actress for the role of Teresa.

The following students were named to the Zone II All-Star Cast:

  • Juri Koern, Cypress Ranch – Ed;
  • Sharif Goodlette, Cypress Springs – Mr. Marks;
  • Alexander Jopio, Cypress Lakes – Harlequin;
  • Alex Kerry, Cypress Creek – Lloyd;
  • Ailani Adams, Cy-Fair – Catherine;
  • Diamond Ramble, Cypress Springs – Esther;
  • Sterling Rubottom, Cypress Creek – Rachel; and
  • Gillian Sauer, Cypress Ranch – Siobhan.

The following students were named to the Zone II Honorable Mention All-Star Cast:

  • Bri Gonzalez, Cy-Fair – Vi;
  • Taylor Jordan, Cypress Springs – Mrs. Dickenson;
  • Dakotarose Dennis, Cypress Lakes – Dottore;
  • Maggie Freking, Cypress Ranch – Judy;
  • Kat Reed, Cy-Fair – Mary;
  • Jacqueline Leon, Cypress Lakes – Colombine;
  • Coleman Green, Cypress Creek – Tom Jr.; and
  • Emily Hallenbeck, Cypress Ranch – Mrs. Alexander.

The following students earned Best Technician honors in Zone II:

  • Jacob Woods, Cy-Fair;
  • Brevan Crawford, Cypress Springs;
  • Austin Romero, Cypress Ranch;
  • Allison McCain, Cypress Creek; and
  • Jimmy Aguiar, Cypress Lakes.

Cypress Creek students Josh Besseto, Bredan Corbett, Allison Lindsey, Allison McCain and Erasmo Salinas were named Best Technical Crew.

In the 5A zone competition between Bridgeland and Cypress Park, the following students earned honors:

  • Ashleigh Stoutner, Bridgeland – Best Technician;
  • Calla Bentsen, Nathan Schutt and Joleigh Underwood, Bridgeland – All-Star Cast;
  • John Hughes, Bridgeland – Best Actor;
  • Jennifer Salinas, Cypress Park – Best Technician; and
  • Ryan Autry and Sofia Castro, Cypress Park – Honorable Mention.

The District 17-6A One-Act Play finals will start at 3 p.m. on March 20 at the Berry Center. Tickets are $10 apiece and must be purchased at the door. Plays will begin at the top of each hour in the following order:

  • Cypress Lakes;
  • Cypress Woods;
  • Cypress Falls;
  • Cypress Creek;
  • Langham Creek; and
  • Cypress Ranch.

The District 20-5A One-Act Play finals will start at 2 p.m. on March 20 at Tomball High School. Tickets are $5 apiece. Bridgeland High School will perform second.
