The Cypress Lakes Spartans are among the 26 teams competing in the CFISD Men’s Varsity Soccer Showcase on Jan. 3-5. The event field, which is its largest ever, includes seven CFISD teams. In addition to its teams competing in the showcase, Cypress Lakes will also serve as a host site alongside Cy-Fair FCU and Pridgeon stadiums.
Dec. 12, 2018—Cypress-Fairbanks ISD will host the 16th annual CFISD Men’s Varsity Soccer Showcase on Jan. 3-5, 2019, with the tournament continuing its run of bringing together many of the state’s best to open the season.
The 26-team event will be played in a showcase-style format, with most teams scheduled to play three full-length games. Bridgeland, Brownsville Veterans Memorial, Cypress Ridge, Deer Park, Harlingen, Harlingen South, Pharr Valley View and San Antonio Johnson high schools will each play four games.
Matches will be played at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium (8877 Barker Cypress Road), Pridgeon Stadium (11355 Falcon Road) and Cypress Lakes High School (5750 Greenhouse Road). They will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 3 and conclude at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 5.

Seven CFISD high schools (Cypress Creek, Cypress Falls, Jersey Village, Cy-Fair, Bridgeland, Cypress Ridge and Cypress Lakes) will compete in the invitational. The 19 visiting teams are:
Seven teams in the showcase field start the 2019 season in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization preseason rankings. That includes Pharr Valley View and Brownsville Veterans Memorial, which are first and second in Class 5A’s Region IV.
In all, three of the UIL’s four regions (II, III and IV) will be represented in the field.
“We continue to be excited about the amazing opportunity we are able to provide for some of the top teams in the state in our preseason showcase,” said Scott Tucker, Langham Creek High School assistant principal and tournament director. “This year, we welcome the largest field ever with a number of regional- and state-ranked teams and we believe that once again we will see one of these teams represented in the state tournament in April.”
Tickets will be sold at the gate for $3 (adults) and $2 (students) apiece. Spectators at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium are asked to enter through Gate 5, while spectators at Pridgeon Stadium are asked to enter through the southwest entrance.
