April 7, 2021—Four CFISD students from the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Advisory Council (SSLAC) were selected to give a 60-minute video presentation at this year’s virtual Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Governance Camp.
TASB Governance Camp is an annual conference for school board members from across the state. Formerly known as the Winter Governance Seminar, attendees listen to guest speakers, break into small groups for specialized sessions and listen to visiting students from various school districts. The goal is to cultivate interactive learning for the attendees and to help board members continue to grow as leaders. Fifteen groups of students were chosen this year to give presentations as a part of the “Student Voice” section of the camp.
The CFISD SSLAC is made up of four to five students from each high school that are selected by their respective principals. The council routinely meets with district leadership throughout the year to examine and discuss many aspects of the district. The four students chosen to give the TASB presentation displayed a history of proactive leadership within the council.
The students selected were Jersey Village High School senior Emily Wussow, Cypress Ridge High School senior Amrita Dhall, Cypress Falls High School senior Raj Kindra and Cy-Fair High School senior Kara Lucas.

“It was truly an honor for our session on Dr. Henry’s Superintendent Student Leadership Advisory Council (SSLAC) to be selected for the 2021 TASB Governance Camp,” said Roy Garcia, chief officer for school leadership. “Amrita, Emily, Kara and Raj represented their school, the SSLAC and CFISD extremely well. We are very proud of all members of the SSLAC as their voice is critical in making CFISD even better.”

“I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the Texas educational apparatus while sharing our district’s method of connecting students to the top of our administration through the TASB Governance Camp,” Kindra said. “It was a unique experience that led me to present how the CFISD SSLAC operated on behalf of my school district, and it allowed me to become closer to my peers who were selected to participate alongside our phenomenal superintendent.”
