Feb. 5, 2020—Students from five high schools earned “Best of Show” honors at the third annual CFISD Cosmetology Competition, held Jan. 25 at Cypress Ranch High School.
Approximately 230 projects were submitted for the competition. Categories for projects included manikin hair, mini salons, nail art, live fantasy makeup and live nail art. Projects and competitions were judged by professionals in the cosmetic industry.
Langham Creek High School senior Elizabeth Espinosa, senior Brissa Ramirez and junior Britney Hernandez won Overall Best of Show for their Chi Innovation Salon project. Approximately 230 projects were submitted for the third annual Cosmetology Competition.
“This district competition and show allows our students to not only compete but show off their skills to vendors and community members,” said Dr. Sharon Hogue, coordinator for career and technology education. “We are so proud of our strong cosmetology program and our nearly 1,200 students throughout the district for showcasing their talent in this competition.”
Cypress Ridge High School junior Stephanie Le’s Comb Out look won a Best of Show award at the third annual Cosmetology Competition held Jan. 25 at Cypress Ranch High School.

·Cypress Park senior Lesly Connell (Nail Art);
·Cypress Ridge High School junior Stephanie Le (Comb Out);
·Cypress Falls High School junior Alexis Attaway (Wet Set);
·Cypress Ranch High School juniors Casey Lewis and Nia Santos (Innovation Salon Design);
·Cypress Ranch junior Mangy Lobo Ortiz (Evening Up-Do); and
·Cypress Ranch senior Akunna Ibeh (Live Makeup).
Cypress Ranch senior Abby Erickson placed first in the live fantasy makeup competition.
In addition to submitting projects, students competed in live fantasy makeup and live nail art competitions. Students had an hour to complete their looks.
Students in both Introduction to Cosmetology and advanced Cosmetology were allowed to compete. CFISD’s Cosmetology programs allows students to work toward earning their Texas Cosmetology Operator License before graduation.
In addition to submitting projects and competing, students had the opportunity to speak with industry professionals from local businesses and watch live haircutting and eyebrow threading tutorials. Students also competed in a quiz bowl and earned their eyelash certification.
