Three CFISD productions advance to One-Act Play area competition

 The Cypress Ridge High School production of The Book of Everything by Richard Tulloch joins productions from Cypress Woods and Jersey Village high schools in advancing to area competition. Cypress Ridge and Jersey Village advance to the area meet encompassing Region III’s 17-6A, 18-6A, 19-6A and 20-6A, to be held April 5 at the Slocomb Auditorium on the San Jacinto College – Central campus in Pasadena.

April 4, 2019—CFISD productions from Cypress Ridge, Cypress Woods and Jersey Village high schools advanced from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Bi-District One-Act Play contests to qualify for their respective area meets April 5-6.

Cypress Woods’ production, Oslo by J.T. Rogers, advanced from its bi-district competition between qualifiers from District 13-6A and District 14-6A, held March 28 at Pflugerville Hendrickson High School.

Cypress Ridge’s production, The Book of Everything by Richard Tulloch, and Jersey Village’s production, Where Words Once Were by Finegan Kruckemeyer, advanced from their bi-district competition between qualifiers from District 17-6A and District 18-6A, held March 27 at the Berry Center.

The Cypress Woods High School production of Oslo by J.T. Rogers advanced from the University Interscholastic League Bi-District competition and qualified alongside five other productions encompassing Region II’s 13-6A, 14-6A, 15-6A and 16-6A to the area meet, which will be held April 6 at the Bryan ISD Performing Arts Center.

Cypress Creek (Marie Antoinette by David Adjmi) and Cypress Ranch (Equus by Peter Shaffer) high schools ended their seasons as bi-district finalists.

The following students were named to the bi-district All-Star Casts:

  • Olivia Pruitt, Cypress Creek;
  • Ryan Cowhey, Cypress Ranch;
  • Juri Koern, Cypress Ranch;
  • Fiona Beeton, Cypress Ridge;
  • Julie Page, Cypress Woods;
  • Troy Amoss, Jersey Village; and
  • Addison Kanke, Jersey Village.

The following students were named to the bi-district Honorable Mention All-Star Casts:

  • Anna Del Angel, Cypress Creek;
  • Christian Kane, Cypress Creek;
  • Lauren Koops, Cypress Ranch;
  • Victoria Goehring, Cypress Ridge;
  • Efrain Gonzalez, Cypress Ridge;
  • Matthew Basinger, Cypress Woods;
  • Destin Moreno, Cypress Woods; and
  • Jessie Bess, Jersey Village.

The following students were named Best Technician from each production:

  • Spencer Mear, Cypress Creek;
  • Jessica Forristall, Cypress Ranch;
  • Samantha Falcon, Cypress Ridge;
  • Matthew Hiemstra, Cypress Woods; and
  • Maddy Blue, Jersey Village.

Cypress Creek was awarded Best Technical Crew from the bi-district competition between 17-6A and 18-6A.

Advancing productions move on to area round competition.

Cypress Woods qualified alongside five other productions encompassing Region II’s 13-6A, 14-6A, 15-6A and 16-6A. The meet will be held April 6 at the Bryan ISD Performing Arts Center (800 S. Coulter Dr.). Performances will begin at 2 p.m. with plays starting on the hour. Tickets must be purchased at the door for $10 apiece.

Cypress Ridge and Jersey Village qualified alongside four other productions encompassing Region III’s 17-6A, 18-6A, 19-6A and 20-6A. The meet will be held April 5 at the Slocomb Auditorium on the San Jacinto College – Central (8060 Spencer Highway) campus in Pasadena. Performances will begin at 2 p.m. with plays starting on the hour. Tickets must be purchased at the door for $10 apiece.

Plays may contain mature subject matter.

Three productions will advance from the area meets to regional competition, with Region II set for April 13 at Waco University High School and Region III to be held April 13 at San Jacinto College – Central.
