Track and field athletes qualify for 2021 UIL State Meet

Athletes qualify for UIL State Track MeetCypress Woods High School junior Quinn Calhoun qualified for the UIL Track and Field State Meet in Austin after placing second in the pole vault at the Region II-6A meet.

April 28, 2021—CFISD track and field teams will send six girls’ entries and two boys’ entries to the UIL Track and Field State Meet, May 7-8 at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas in Austin. The Class 6A events will be May 8. Athletes qualified after placing in their respective events at the Region II-6A meet at Waco Midway High School and Region III-6A meet at Humble ISD’s Turner Stadium.

The Bridgeland High School girls placed the highest among CFISD teams in the two meets, recording 63 points to finish second in Region II-6A.

Girls’ teams from Cypress Ridge High School (16 points), Cypress Falls High School (15), Cypress Ranch High School (12), Cypress Woods High School (12) and Cy-Fair High School (8) all finished among the top 20 in their respective regional meets.

0428 Regional Track 3 WEB.jpgBridgeland High School sophomore Emily Ellis qualified for the UIL Track and Field State Meet in Austin in three events. She won the 3,200-meter run at the Region II-6A meet and finished second in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs.

The following girls qualified for the Class 6A state meet:

·       Bridgeland’s Eliana Lake:

o placed first in the 400-meter dash (56.28); and

o placed first in the 800-meter run (2:16.29); and

·       Bridgeland’s Emily Ellis:

o placed second in the 800-meter run (2:16.31);

o placed second in the 1,600-meter run (5:06.15); and

o placed first in the 3,200-meter run (10:52.94); and

·       Cypress Falls’ Alyssa Finister placed second in the high jump (5-8);

·       Cypress Ridge’s Rylee Hampton placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (13.76); and

·       Cypress Woods’ Quinn Calhoun placed second in the pole vault (13-3).

On the boys’ side, Cypress Woods placed the highest among CFISD teams, finishing eighth in Region II-6A with 27 points. Cypress Ridge placed ninth with 31 points in Region III-6A.

Cypress Park High School (16 points) and Cypress Falls (9) both finished among the top 20 in Region II-6A.

The following boys qualified for the Class 6A state meet:

·       Bridgeland’s Robert Postell placed second in the pole vault (15-6);

·       Cypress Falls’ Jesaiah McWright placed second in the high jump (6-8);

·       Cypress Ridge’s 4x200-meter relay team of Aaron Moore, Mark Benjamin, Jaelon Madden and Robert Griffin placed second with a time of 1:28.40;

·       Cypress Woods’ Aaron Cooper placed first in the 400-meter dash (48.60); and

·       Cypress Woods’ 4x400-meter relay team of Ian Johnson, Eugene Liger, Matthew DeSouza and Aaron Cooper placed second with a time of 3:17.11.​​​​​
