Dec. 11, 2013—Representatives from the Cy-Fair American Federation of Teachers (AFT) presented director for transportation Bill Powell and his department with a plaque for their outstanding service to the community through the holiday food and coat drive.
The food and coat drive, which began on Nov. 18 and will conclude on Dec. 20, has already produced more than 100 adult and children coats and four large bins of perishable food items.
The coats and food items have been collected at all four of the CFISD transportation centers and collected by the Cy-Fair AFT office. Community partner Cy-Hope will use its resources to distribute the items to less fortunate community members in Cy-Fair.
Cy-Fair AFT representatives Lauren Duperray, Mike Garcia and Nikki Cowart publicly recognized Powell and his team during the Dec. 9 Board of Trustees meeting at the Berry Center.
“I am proud to be working with such great men and women in our transportation department, and I was honored to accept the Cy-Fair AFT award on their behalf,” Powell said. “When I heard Mr. Garcia comment on the generous outpouring of coats and non-perishable food items that have been donated for the families in our community and that most of the donations have been exclusively from the Cy-Fair transportation department, it reinforced my belief of how much all of us truly care about our children and our community.”
