Reed Elementary was named for Dolores and Raymond Reed. Dolores came to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in September 1963 and Raymond in 1964; both were teachers. Later, Dolores became one of the first elementary librarians, and Raymond became the District's first maintenance and transportation director.

The Reed PTO meets on a regular basis. The organization funds cultural arts activities and field trips, organizes volunteers, sponsors various student events, and conducts fund-raisers, which have provided technology, landscaping, books, and playground equipment.
