Nov. 21, 2014—A holiday ornament created by Cypress Ridge High School junior Jessica Davis has been chosen to represent Texas District 138 and Rep. Dwayne Bohac on the 2014 Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree at the State Capitol.
Davis, a student in Shawna Billet’s Art II / Drawing and Painting classes, was chosen to represent Cypress Ridge with her design because of her work ethic and desire to learn about all media in art.
This ornament, featuring a design of Texas blue bonnets, was Davis’ first time to paint with acrylic paint on glass.
The ornament will join those chosen from all 150 of the Texas House districts on the 22-foot native Christmas tree that stands in the House Chamber of the Texas Capitol during the holiday season, Dec. 5 – Jan. 2. A picture and description of the ornament will also be published in the House of Representatives’ 2014 ornament book.
“I am extremely honored that State Rep. Dwayne Bohac asked that one of our Cypress Ridge students create a Christmas ornament for the State Congressional Tree this year,” Billet said. “Jessica Davis is a fearless and dedicated student when it comes to her education. Therefore, she was chosen for this honorable opportunity due to her diligent work ethic and desire to learn new techniques and media in art. This was her first attempt at using acrylic paint and she was able to do an exceptional job! I am so proud of her for taking this opportunity to represent her school, community and state.”
