Considering your skills and talents, what positive contribution would you make as a member of the Board of Trustees?
I have a certification through the US Chamber of Commerce in Organizational Management. I have helped consult in boards I have sat on as well as other non-profits in their board structure and management. I stay informed on challenges in the district through my membership on the CLC committee and attending board meetings throughout the year. I volunteer when I can in the district and enjoy visiting campuses when given the opportunity.
What are the responsibilities of the Board of Trustees?
The Board of Trustees are in place to set policy, ensure compliance with TEA standards and state law, encourage administration, approve a budget, set a tax rate, approve attendance zones, hire the Superintendent, and listen and communicate with the community on concerns and questions.
What role do positive trustee relations on the Board play in affecting student success?
First and foremost, we must model behavior of how to manage conflict in a respectful and efficient way. We may not all agree on a given topic, but we should be able to work together for the common goal of success in our students and support of our teachers and staff.
What critical challenges face the district, and what are possible solutions to address those issues?
I believe the most critical challenge in our district right now is funding. We need to have our basic allotment raised to match the rising costs of everything due to inflation. Our elected officials in Austin need to hear our voice asking for more money to pay our teachers and support our important programs that help our students to be 21st century learners with a well rounded opportunity for extracurricular activities.
