May 24, 2023—CFISD has been honored with the 2023 Best Communities for Music Education national designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for the sixth consecutive year.

The 2023 award, which honors more than 800 school districts across the county, highlights districts and individual schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

“Cypress-Fairbanks ISD continues to be a destination school district for the arts, and our fantastic kindergarten through 12th grade music programming options are a major reason why,” said John Morrison, director of fine arts. “We continue to see our music programs recognized at the regional, state and national levels. The support from the CFISD community, school board and our district leadership for our music programs has been unwavering during even the most challenging of times.”

This year’s designation acknowledges and celebrates innovative schools and districts that have developed a stronger presence for music education on campus and in the lives of students, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The music programs are outstanding and the support we receive is incredible,” said Joe Glass, coordinator of secondary music. “I want to thank the community, Board of Trustees and our district leadership for their immense support of music education in CFISD. I am in awe of the work our music teachers do for students! I am so proud to call Cypress-Fairbanks ISD home!”

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, CFISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for music programs and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research institute at the University of Kansas.
