Class of 2023 graduates appointed to service academies

May 31, 2023—Five CFISD graduates from the Class of 2023 have received appointments to attend United States service academies.

Bridgeland High School graduate Alex Macin was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York

“Alex Macin was an amazing student, athlete, and leader at Bridgeland High School,” said Mike Smith, Bridgeland principal. “We are extremely proud of Alex’s appointment to West Point United States Military Academy and his willingness to serve our country. We look forward to seeing all the great things he will accomplish.”

Cypress Ranch High School graduate Kristina Sanchez was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“The Cypress Ranch community congratulates Kristina Sanchez on her appointment to the United States Air Force Academy,” said Mike Maness, Cypress Ranch principal. “This is an exceptional accomplishment that is a testament to her outstanding achievement and potential as a future leader.  We wish her all the best as she embarks on this remarkable opportunity.”

Cypress Woods High School graduate Jacob Gelder was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Cypress Woods High School had two appointments:

  • Jacob Gelder was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy; and
  • Emma Opalacz was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

“We are very proud of Emma and Jacob as they set sail on their next journey to the Air Force Academy,” said Gary Kinninger, Cypress Woods principal. “After being such outstanding 212 Wildcats here at The Woods, we know they will do the same at The Academy.”

A fifth unnamed graduate was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy.
