March 30, 2022—Approximately 850 cadets representing CFISD’s 12 comprehensive high schools and nine JROTC units displayed their discipline and uniformity at the district’s 18th Annual Air Force Junior ROTC Pass in Review, held March 26 at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium.

The Pass in Review is a military tradition designed to display the readiness of troops and their units to a newly assigned commander. The event featured three reviewing officials: Dr. Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent of schools, Cypress Ridge High School Principal Stephanie Meshell, and Lt. Col. Haider Khan, a Cypress Ridge senior aerospace science instructor.

Among the guests were family members of the cadets, Board of Trustees members and campus and district administrators.

For a number of cadets, this was their first opportunity to participate in the Pass in Review. The last ceremony was held in 2019, with events not held the last two years due to COVID-19.

It is also unique in that the annual Pass in Review is the only time every cadet from across CFISD is together.

“When we have drill meets and competition, that’s only a portion of each school. But here, the majority of the cadets were out,” said Senior Master Sgt. James Core, Cypress Ridge aerospace science instructor. “This just goes to show you the camaraderie of the Air Force. We teach the kids what it’s like to become one as a whole team. We have teams at the individual schools but now everyone gets a chance to see the big team by putting all 12 high schools together.”

“It was amazing to be back out here from three years ago and see all the cadets coming together for everyone to see,” Ho said. “There are hours and hours of preparation and work, but it’s worth it. Every single second is worth it.”

Added Core: “It went great. It was good to see the families and friends come out and give us a large crowd. We hope to continue for years to come.”
