Oct. 13, 2023—Representatives from Bear Creek Baptist Church visited the staff at Hemmenway Elementary School on Oct. 5 to officially announce their Adopt-a-School partnership with the campus.

CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools with community organizations and business partners to utilize resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.

Tim Hill, executive pastor at Bear Creek Baptist Church, shared that adopting Hemmenway was a natural step to help serve the community. The church is less than two miles from the campus.

“Ten years ago, Bear Creek Baptist Church adopted Walker Elementary School and we love our partnership with them,” Hill said. “This year we are excited to adopt a second school, Hemmenway Elementary School. This summer we had a great meeting with the new principal to discuss adopting them. We already have a strong connection with so many families and kids at Hemmenway since we’re in the same neighborhood, so working with them was an easy decision. It’s our goal to serve and encourage the staff, kids and families throughout the year as our church strives to connect with and care for our community. The CFISD Adopt-a-School program is a great way for us to achieve our vision as a church.”

Christal Hammond, Hemmenway principal, expressed her gratitude to Bear Creek Baptist Church for committing to help support the campus.

“Hemmenway Elementary School is so excited about this partnership with Bear Creek Baptist Church,” Hammond said. “To have the wonderful support from the church, as a pillar in the community, is a true blessing. Our school community will benefit greatly from this adoption. Bear Creek’s commitment to investing in our Tiger family means so much and is sure to have a powerful impact. The future is bright at Hemmenway!”
