Eleven CFISD dance students selected for all-state honors

Jan. 19, 2022—Eleven CFISD dance students representing 11 high schools were selected to the All-State Dance Team for the 2022 Texas Dance Educators Association (TDEA) Convention, held at the Marriott Marquis Houston Jan. 5-8. Students participated in rigorous rehearsals and dance classes as all-state members.  

The following 11 students were selected as all-state members:

  • Melissa Gonzales, Bridgeland Belles;
  • Macy McClosky, Cy-Fair Brigade;
  • Adrienne Countryman, Cypress Creek Silverados;
  • Logan Driver, Cypress Falls Sky Dancers;
  • Lillian Mathis, Cypress Lakes Sterling Stars;
  • Alexandra Cowburn, Cypress Ranch Classics;
  • Berenice Alfon, Cypress Ridge Dazzlers;
  • Natalie Iruegas, Cypress Springs Panteras;
  • Kaylee Gibson, Cypress Woods Crimson Cadettes;
  • Brianna Almaraz, Jersey Village Gold Dusters; and
  • Ellie Eugenio, Langham Creek Bailadoras.

The TDEA All-State Dance Team is comprised of dancers representing schools from across the state of Texas. All-state dancers participate in a convention experience that includes dance workshops, leadership training, master classes and networking with other dance students. The All-State Dance Team performed a routine choreographed by master choreographer Afton Fox-Beadles.

Cypress Lakes High School senior Lillian Mathis was selected to receive the TDEA Founders scholarship worth $2,500.

“We are so proud of our captain for receiving the TDEA Founders Scholarship,” said Karen Tarver-Shively, Cypress Lakes dance director. “On a daily basis, Lillian demonstrates multiple qualities that will make her an amazing dance instructor in the future. She is very positive and pushes her team and herself to be better every day to be not only a better dancer but a better overall person. Lillian is an amazing leader and a fabulous dancer. Being awarded this scholarship is a tremendous honor. I cannot say enough positive things about Lillian and how proud we are of her and this accomplishment.”
