District 17-6A girls’ water polo athletes earn 2023 league honors

Cypress Creek High School senior Makynna Smith was voted the District 17-6A girls’ water polo Most Valuable Player.
Cypress Creek High School senior Makynna Smith was voted the District 17-6A girls’ water polo Most Valuable Player. She helped lead the Cougars to a second consecutive district titles and three league superlatives. Junior Haylie Duong was voted Newcomer of the Year and Head Coach Jeff Chandler was named Coach of the Year.

Nov. 17, 2023—District 17-6A girls’ water polo coaches recently released the 2023 All-District 17-6A Girls’ Water Polo Team, following the conclusion of each team’s season in the UIL playoffs.

Cypress Creek High School, which captured its second consecutive district title, earned three of the four league superlatives. Senior Makynna Smith was named the Most Valuable Player and junior Haylie Duong was voted the league’s Newcomer of the Year.

Cougars Head Coach Jeff Chandler was named Coach of the Year.

Jersey Village High School senior Evie Riha was named the District 17-6A girls’ water polo Goalkeeper of the Year.
