Blaylock named Cypress Ranch campus athletic coordinator, head football coach

May 14, 2024William Blaylock, campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Lubbock Estacado High School, has been named the Cypress Ranch High School campus athletic coordinator and head football coach. Blaylock replaces Sean McAuliffe, who was named the head football coach at New Braunfels Canyon High School last month.

Blaylock has 15 years of coaching experience at the high school level and is in his second year of being a head coach and campus athletic coordinator.

Blaylock got his start in coaching as an offensive line coach at Sulphur Springs High School (2009-2012). He then moved to Crosby High School where he served as a run game coordinator (2012-2013). He also served as a run game coordinator at Tomball High School (2017-2018). Blaylock has served as an offensive coordinator at Spring Dekaney High School (2013-2014), John Tyler High School (2014-2017), Seguin High School (2018-2019) and Fort Bend Hightower High School (2019-2022). He was named the campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Estacado in 2022.

While at Estacado, Blaylock lead the Matadors to a 17-8 overall record, including a 10-3 record during the 2023 season when they advanced to the Class 4A region semifinals.

We look forward to Coach Blaylock building on the track record of excellence that has been established at Cypress Ranch High School under Coaches Sean McAuliffe and Gene Johnson. We’re excited for Coach Blaylock to begin his leadership journey with the Mustangs.”

Blaylock was named Coach of the Year in 2023 by the Texas Tech chapter of the National Football Foundation and was named the South Plains Coach of the Year in 2023. He was also included as a “40 Under 40 Coach” in the 2022 edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

Blaylock earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education General Studies from Baylor University and his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from West Texas A&M University. While at Baylor, Blaylock played center and right guard on the offensive line and earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors. He also served as a graduate football assistant while at West Texas A&M.
