CFISD names new principal for Cypress Park High School

May 24, 2024Dr. Michael Contreras, principal at Labay Middle School, was named the principal at Cypress Park High School on May 24. Dr. Contreras replaces Chris Hecker, who was named assistant superintendent of secondary school leadership on April 16.

Dr. Contreras has 30 years of experience in education, 17 of which have been in administration. He began his administrative career as an assistant principal in San Angelo ISD before serving in the same role in Judson ISD for six years.

Dr. Contreras joined CFISD in 2014 as an assistant principal at Cypress Creek High School before being named director of instruction at Cypress Creek in 2015. He was named to his current position as principal at Labay in 2020.

Dr. Contreras earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Angelo State University. He received his Doctor of Education in Professional Leadership from the University of Houston. He holds a Leadership Partners certification from Rice University’s Executive Education Program.

“I am honored, humbled and grateful to serve as the new principal of Cypress Park High School,” Dr. Contreras said. “I’m excited to work alongside the faculty as we build on the excellence the team has established. I’m appreciative for the opportunity to establish relationships with our students as we work as a team to support their aspirations. Finally, I look forward to the opportunity of serving the Tiger community with compassion, commitment and courage.”
