The Distinguished Eagle Award is one of the association’s highest honors and is given to school business officials whose leadership and service have a positive impact on their districts, their communities and the school business profession. Smith is one of four 2021 Eagle Award recipients.

“I am truly honored to receive the Association of School Business Officials International’s Distinguished Eagle Award,” Smith said. “Being recognized at the national level makes this award even more special.”

In addition to winning the Distinguished Eagle Award, Smith received a $2,500 scholarship to present to a high school senior of her choice, was presented with the Eagle Award medal and was given an Eagle Award pin.

Smith has 29 years of experience working in school finance. She mentors new school business officials and presents at local and national conferences. Smith also developed a training program that teaches new principals about their fiscal responsibilities and district financial processes.
