June 17, 2021—Cypress Creek High School junior Anya Carlson was recently awarded the prestigious Yale Book Award.

The award is given through the Yale Alumni Club of Houston. Recipients are recognized for exhibiting qualities that Yale University values in their prospective students.

“Anya is well-suited to attend Yale or any other university of its caliber,” said Cypress Creek counselor Susan May. “She is ranked near the top of her class and still manages to participate in athletics and other programs around campus. Anya is one of the most optimistic, positive-minded students I know. When presented with an obstacle, she is solution-focused and finds a way to meet her goal.”

“Anya is very conscientious about others,” said May. “I specifically remember a time when she came to me and wanted advice on how she could be a good example. I have no doubt Anya would be a great representative for Yale or whichever school she chooses to attend.”
