Anthony, Smith win district middle school cross country team titles

Nov. 8, 2022—Anthony and Smith middle schools won team championships at the CFISD Middle School Cross Country Meet, held. Oct. 19 at Cypress Woods High School.

Anthony Middle School swept the girls’ team titles, while Smith Middle School swept the boys’ team championships.

Smith won the eighth grade boys’ race with a team score of 35. The Sabercats finished ahead of runner-up Salyards (76) and third-place Hamilton (96).

The runners comprising Smith’s first-place score were Dean Rosales (first overall, 10:55.36), Quinn McMahon (sixth, 11:38.13), Liam Seiffert (seventh, 11:46.11), Brendan Taylor (10th, 11:56.33) and Levi Owens (11th, 11:57.67).

The top 10 individual eighth grade boys were as follows:

  1. Dean Rosales, Smith (10:55.36);
  2. Khaleb Galarza, Hamilton (11:00.00);
  3. Royce Shelton, Thornton (11:16.97);
  4. Patrick McHugh, Salyards (11:17.99);
  5. Collin Fowell, Anthony (11:33.66);
  6. Quinn McMahon, Smith (11:38.13);
  7. Liam Seiffert, Smith (11:46.11);
  8. Alejandro Zamora, Hamilton (11:51.07);
  9. Kayo Kunnuji, Salyards (11:54.57); and
  10.  Brendan Taylor, Smith (11:56.33).

Anthony won the eighth grade girls’ race with a score of 40, finishing ahead of second-place Spillane (57) and third-place Smith (59).

Anthony’s runners to tally the winning score were London Bloom (fourth overall, 13:13.50), London Thomas (fifth, 13:19.94), Jazmyn Chambers (11th, 13:45.03), Hallie Tanton (12th, 13:49.79) and Maggie Schmidt (13th, 13:50.64).

The top 10 individual eighth grade girls were as follows:

  1. Amari White, Spillane (12:09.81);
  2. Caroline Mistric, Arnold (12:45.51);
  3. Kate Garrison, Smith (12:56.42);
  4. London Bloom, Anthony (13:13.50);
  5. London Thomas, Anthony (13:19.94);
  6. Austin Healy, Spillane (13:23.72);
  7. Sophia Davis, Salyards (13:27.34);
  8. Olivia Serratt, Smith (13:31.01);
  9. Brynlee Weston, Smith (13:32.93); and
  10.  Ellison Barfuss, Spillane (13:43.48).

Smith won the seventh grade boys’ race with a team score of 34. The Sabercats were followed by runner-up Anthony (55) and third-place Salyards (69).

The runners that comprised Smith’s winning score were Ilyes Benguedda (first overall, 11:48.13), Sergio Cabrera (third, 11:57.07), Jared Jenkins (10th, 12:32.79), Tucker Shannon (11th, 12:33.50) and Braxton Ramirez (12th, 12:33.50).

  9. Micah Oloyede, Salyards (12:29.82); and
  10.  Jared Jenkins, Smith (12:32.79).

Anthony won the seventh grade girls’ race with a score of 44, finishing ahead of runner-up Smith (63) and third-place Spillane (67).

Anthony’s runners that comprised its winning score were Lucy Montague (third overall, 13:35.87), Valeria Gutierrez (fifth, 13:45.09), Avery Cain (seventh, 13:51.32), Makayla Acevedo (11th, 14:10.00) and Miyu Tran (18th, 14:30.03).
