Dec. 12, 2022—Cy-Fair High School celebrated Girls’ Basketball Coach Ann Roubique’s 700th career win with a small recognition ceremony before the team’s home opener on Dec. 5. Roubique’s milestone victory came the previous Tuesday on the road against Cypress Park High School.

“I never thought I would make it to 700 wins,” Roubique said. “It’s never been about the number of wins. It’s about that one game.”

The basketball team presented Roubique with a ball signed by the players and sign commemorating the milestone following the win. Before Cy-Fair’s game on Dec. 5, a short ceremony commemorated the honor with a number of Roubique’s family members, former players and coaches and fellow CFISD girls’ basketball coaches in attendance. The Bobcats then gave Roubique career victory No. 701 with the 62-56 win over Houston Bellaire, one of many teams led by her former players or assistant coaches.

“It was really special to get that win for Coach Roubique,” said Macy Eaken, a junior on the Bobcats’ basketball team. “We were very determined to get it for her.”

Said Roubique: “I was a little more emotional than I thought I was going to be but it I think it was because the kids were so excited about sharing it with me. It also means some longevity, which is a comfortable thing. I’ve been very fortunate with the players and coaches that I’ve worked with, and the staff, principals and support on campus and throughout the entire Cy-Fair ISD community. It’s been really a special thing.”

For a coach as accomplished as Roubique, her milestone win is even more special in that all of her coaching wins have been at one school. Roubique has been at Cy-Fair High School since 1989.

She’s led the Bobcats to the UIL Basketball State Championships four times and won Class 5A titles in 2008 and 2010.

“I’ve never met someone who doesn’t her,” said Virginia Flores, associate director of athletics, who presented Roubique with flowers and a plaque commemorating the milestone victory during the Dec. 5 pregame ceremony. “The bond she builds with her players and community really is nothing short of amazing. Whenever there’s an alumni game, past players will come back to introduce Ann to their children. That’s how you know the bonds she builds with these kids will last a lifetime.”

Roubique’s impact on Cy-Fair High School and the CFISD basketball community goes beyond the wins. One such example is her establishing Letters For Life, which provides letterman jackets to the school’s LIFE Skills students. Members of the basketball team raise money to help purchase the jackets as well as Roubique reaching to business and community partners.

On the court, however, her résumé speaks for itself.

In 2021, Roubique was named among the top 100 girls’ basketball coaches in the UIL’s 100-year history. Her 2008 state championship team was named among the top 100 girls’ basketball teams.

“One of the reasons I came to this school is because of Coach Roubique,” said Laney Lyle, a senior on the basketball team. “Just to be coached by her every day and be pushed to be better is unreal.”
