Dec. 13, 2022—Langham Creek High School Baseball Coach Armando Sedeño was recently inducted into the Greater Houston Baseball Coaches Association (GHBCA) Hall of Honor, joining three other prestigious coaches who helped promote the game of baseball in the Houston area and were equally successful with their programs.

The four coaches were recognized at a ceremony on Dec. 8 at the University of Houston’s Baseball Player Development Center & Clubhouse.

Sedeño joined former coaches Tom McPherson (Katy High School), Rocky Manuel (Houston Bellaire) and Rick Carpenter (Fort Bend Elkins and Prosper) in the prestigious Class of 2022. The hall of honor was established in 1997 as a way to recognize coaches for helping promote baseball and their success on the field.

“These were guys that I had great battles with,” said Sedeño, who helped establish the GHBCA and served as its first president. “Sometimes I got a piece of them and sometimes they got a piece of me, but those were great battles.”

Langham Creek High School Coach Armando Sedeño, second from right, was among those honored. Joining him in the Class of 2022 were Rick Carpenter (former Fort Bend Elkins High School coach), Rocky Manuel (Houston Bellaire) and Tom McPherson (Katy).

Sedeño is the winningest baseball coach in CFISD history, amassing 628 career victories going into the 2023 season. His teams have been state and nationally ranked numerous times and more than 150 former Lobos have signed to play college baseball or in the professional ranks.

In 2015, the GHBCA honored Sedeño with the Ray Knoblauch Award, named for the legendary former Houston Bellaire coach and given annually to a deserving high school coach who has devoted his life to the development of baseball in the Houston area. Langham Creek celebrated Sedeño’s 500th career win that year to go with a district championship and Regional III-6A semifinal appearance.

The Lobos broke through Region III the next year, sending the program and Sedeño to the UIL Baseball State Championships for the first time.

“It’s an honor that people have seen the work I’ve tried to do over the years,” Sedeño said.
