Students claim medals at UIL state academic meet

May 22, 2023—CFISD students brought home several medals from the UIL State Academic Meet held May 17-18 at the University of Texas at Austin.

Bridgeland High School was the top-scoring team, tying for seventh place with 58 points. Cypress Woods High School tied for 10th place with 56 points. Other scoring teams included Cy-Fair (30), Cypress Creek (24), Cypress Ranch (20), Jersey Village (20) and Cypress Park high schools (15).

Cypress Park student Nicole Lee won the state championship in the Poetry Interpretation competition.

Also claiming a state championship was the Cy-Fair Current Issues team of Vedanth Hariharan, Aaron Antony, Keeton Chesnutt and Erykson Zelt. Antony also won second place in the Current Issues individual competition.

Bridgeland student Henry Hoover won the state championship in the Spelling competition. He was also part of the state runner-up Spelling team including Eva Nitch, Rebecca Meyers and Paige Malone.
