Cy Falls JROTC unit earns top mark in triennial Air Force inspection

Dec. 6, 2023—The Cypress Falls High School AFJROTC Unit TX-20003 received the highest overall unit rating of “Exceeds Standards” during its Headquarters Unit Inspection and formal evaluation on Nov. 15.

Cypress Falls is the first CFISD unit to earn the distinguished rating this school year.

Air Force headquarters officials visit JROTC units every three years and perform compliance inspections and evaluations consisting of a briefing, unit formation inspection and drill sequence. The inspections are held to ensure units are maintaining their regulations and standards.

During the inspections, cadets stand at attention within their unit formation. Selected cadets also answer questions asked by the inspecting official, with topics ranging from military and leadership knowledge to general knowledge and conversation. Uniforms are also inspected and critiqued.

Following the inspection, the unit performs a drill sequence and mission briefing.

Unit TX-20003 is led by Lt. Col. Chris Echols and Chief Master Sgt. Reginald Murrell. The unit received an Outstanding Organization Award for the 2022-2023 and 2021-2022 school years by the AFJROTC headquarters and served as the host school at CFISD’s 16th Annual Air Force Junior ROTC Pass in Review in 2018.

“The cadets performed exceptionally well and took great pride in leading and accomplishing their unit goals,” Echols said. “We have created a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with an excellent community outreach. The Cypress Falls Air Force JROTC citizenship program is making a positive impact on the cadets, the school and the surrounding community.”
