CFISD names new principal for Watkins Middle School

Aug. 4, 2023Andrea Lagard, principal at Alternative Learning Center-East, was named the new principal at Watkins Middle School on Aug. 4. Lagard replaces Dr. Abe Lozano, who was named the principal at Cypress Ridge High School on July 10.

Lagard has 24 years of experience in education, beginning in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD at Cypress Creek High School as an IPC teacher. She then moved to Dallas ISD where she served as a secondary science teacher for one year before moving to Houston ISD in 2001 to teach biology and serve as a freshman coordinator for smaller learning communities.

Lagard returned to CFISD in 2004, teaching one year at Cypress Ridge before serving as an academic achievement helping teacher for two years at Dean Middle School. She was named an assistant principal at Cypress Woods High School in 2007, serving in that role until 2016 when she was named the associate principal at Cypress Springs High School. Lagard was named the principal at Alternative Learning Center-East in 2020.

Lagard is a graduate of Jersey Village High School and earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Prairie View A&M University. She earned her Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas Southern University. Lagard has also completed the Executive Education Academy at Rice University and serves on multiple district committees.
