Anthony, Salyards, Sprague win district middle school cross country team titles

Oct. 25, 2023—Anthony, Salyards and Sprague middle schools won team championships at the CFISD Middle School Cross Country Meet, held. Oct. 18 at Cypress Woods High School.

Anthony Middle School won two titles, while Salyards and Sprague middle schools each earned one team championship.

Sprague won the eighth grade boys’ race with a team score of 32. The Cubs finished ahead of runner-up Anthony (70) and third-place Salyards (89).

The runners comprising Sprague’s first-place score were Ilyes Benguedda (first overall, 11:18.37), Sergio Cabrera (second, 11:25.57), Braxton Ramirez (fourth, 11:32.03), Sebastian Valdes (10th, 12:15.18) and Jack Taylor (15th, 12:22.51).

The top 10 individual eighth grade boys were as follows:

  1. Ilyes Benguesdda, Sprague (11:18.37);
  2. Sergio Cabrera, Sprague (11:25.57);
  3. Cale Huff, Salyards (11:25.94);
  4. Braxton Ramirez, Sprague (11:32.03);
  5. Grayson Panek, Anthony (11:35.98);
  6. Ian Rodas, Aragon (12:09.18);
  7. Warnock Keith, Hamilton (12:10.45);
  8. Samuel Onwuchekwa, Anthony (12:13.52);
  9. Nguyen Connor, Hamilton (12:14.36); and
  10.  Sebastian Valdes, Sprague (12:15.18).

Anthony won the eighth grade girls’ race with a score of 65, finishing ahead of second-place Smith (79) and third-place Salyards (102).

Anthony’s runners to tally the winning score were Lucy Montague (first overall, 13:22.04), Valeria Gutierrez (eighth, 14:23.50), Desiree Wilson (10th, 14:25.35), Alice Guirguis (20th, 14:47.65) and Adria Starr (30th, 15:19.41).

The top 10 individual eighth grade girls were as follows:

  1. Lucy Montague, Anthony (13:22.04);
  2. Rylee Milligan, Arnold (13:38.80);
  3. Alana Tanner, Smith (14:02.43);
  4. Anna Zarate, Salyards (14:02.44);
  5. Lyla Lopez, Smith (14:03.88);
  6. Annabelle Martinez, Goodson (14:19.90);
  7. Anya Sharma, Aragon (14:20.49);
  8. Valeria Gutierrez, Anthony (14:23.50);
  9. Reagan Richard, Bleyl (14:24.80); and
  10.  Desiree Wilson, Anthony (14:25.35).

Anthony won the seventh grade boys’ race with a team score of 19. The Ravens were followed by runner-up Spillane (52) and third-place Salyards (69).

The runners that comprised Anthony’s winning score were Alim Dadabhoy (second overall, 12:34.09), Nicholas Quiroga (third, 12:39.19), Brayden Von Dohlen (fourth, 12:40.63), Nicholas Chen (seventh, 12:47.44) and Artrell Gordon (eighth, 12:53.26).

The top 10 individual seventh grade boys were as follows:

  1. Makai Gabriel, Truitt (12:33.65);
  2. Alim Dadabhoy, Anthony (12:34.09);

Salyards won the seventh grade girls’ race with a score of 33, finishing ahead of runner-up Anthony (56) and third-place Sprague (65).

Salyards’ runners that comprised its winning score were Sophia Orozco (third overall, 13:36.36), Zoe Brown (fourth, 14:04.80), Sophia Cline (sixth, 14:11.50), Mackenna Laird (11th, 14:32.32) and Garylee Fenske (14th, 14:52.54).

The top 10 individual seventh grade girls were as follows:

  1. Kat Ezhova, Sprague (13:23.02);
  2. Emily O’Dear, Truitt (13:31.91);
  3. Sophia Orozco, Salyards (13:36.36);
  4. Zoe Brown, Salyards (14:04.80);
