May 20, 2022—CFISD athletes brought home three medals from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track and Field Meet, held May 12-14 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Qualifying for state for the second consecutive year, Cypress Woods High School senior Eugene Liger reached the medal stand. He won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 36.57 to earn the state championship.

“Going into state, coach had me do hard workouts to practice on my endurance and my speed,” said Liger, who reached state last year as part of the Cypress Woods boys’ 4x400-meter relay team. “I changed my whole gameplan for the race and came out with a strong finish. It was an exciting event.”
