Volleyball standouts earn citywide, all-state, All-American accolades

Cypress Woods High School senior D’nari Mills was among numerous CFISD volleyball standouts to earn postseason recognition at the citywide, state and national levels. Mills earned all-region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association and all-state accolades by the Texas Girls Coaches Association to go with being named to the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association Postseason Team.

Dec. 22, 2021—Numerous CFISD volleyball players earned greater Houston, statewide and national postseason honors following a successful 2021 season which featured six CFISD teams reaching the playoffs and Bridgeland High School becoming the district’s first program to advance to the UIL Volleyball State Tournament since 2011.

Among them were Bridgeland senior Mallorie Garner. She was named the All-Greater Houston Player of the Year by the Houston Chronicle, made the VYPE Houston Magazine first team, earned all-state honors by the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) and made the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association (GHVCA) postseason team.

Cypress Ranch High School senior Kailee Gims and Cypress Falls High School senior Abbie Smith were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American team, with both earning honorable mention.

Bridgeland High School senior Mallorie Garner was named the Houston Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston Player of the Year.

Bridgeland was named GHVCA and VYPE Houston Magazine’s Team of the Year, while Head Volleyball Coach Verena Khalil was named Coach of the Year by the Houston Chronicle and GHVCA.
