Cypress Ridge student qualifies for 2021 Cross Country State Championships
October 25, 2021 - Cypress Ridge High School senior Devon Simmons finished 18th overall at the Region III-6A Cross Country Championships to advance to the UIL State Cross Country Championships scheduled for Nov. 5-6 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Cypress Ridge senior Devon Simmons place 18th overall (16:29.60) at the Region III-6A Championship to reach state. He becomes the second state qualifier in Cypress Ridge history.
“Any coach can tell you that it is always a great feeling to see your athletes overcome obstacles and succeed,” said Daniel Cantu, Cypress Ridge cross country head coach. “I am so proud of Devon for his resilience and strength this year, but he will tell you that he couldn't have done it alone. He is always quick to credit his coaches, teachers and administrators that have helped him along the way. His performance at regionals speaks volumes of his heart and ‘All In’ attitude.”
The UIL Cross Country State Championships will be held Nov. 5-6 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
