CFISD names new principal for Bane Elementary School

April 11, 2024Yvette Garcia was named the new principal at Bane Elementary School on April 11. Garcia replaces César Díaz, who was named principal at Owens Elementary School.

Garcia has 40 years of experience in education. Her career began as an English Language Learners and English Immersion teacher at Moore Elementary School. She later joined the staff at Sheridan Elementary School where she was named Spotlight Teacher of the Year in 2001.  

Garcia became an instructional specialist in 2001 and later moved into administration in 2003 as an assistant principal at Post Elementary School. In 2006, Garcia went to Holbrook Elementary School as an assistant principal and was later promoted to principal at Francone Elementary School in 2009.

Garcia served as principal at Francone for three years before being named principal at Holbrook in 2012 where she was also named CFISD Principal of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year. She later served as principal at Truitt Middle School from 2017-2022 before leaving CFISD to serve campuses in various districts as an educational consultant.

Garcia earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Sam Houston State University and her Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University.

“I am thrilled to return to CFISD and continue my passion of creating a culture in which all students can learn,” Garcia said. “I am looking forward to finishing the year strong and gearing up for great things in the upcoming year.”
