Destination Imagination teams win awards at 2024 regional contest

Team V2 from Smith Middle School won first place in the Fine Arts Challenge at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament, held Feb. 17 at Dulles High School and Dulles Middle School in Sugar Land. The team is advancing to the Lone Star Finals Affiliate State Tournament, scheduled for April 12-13 at the University of Texas at Arlington.

March 20, 2024—Fourteen CFISD Destination Imagination teams earned top-three victories at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament, held Feb. 17 at Dulles High School and Dulles Middle School in Sugar Land. Eleven CFISD teams qualified for the Lone Star Finals Affiliate State Tournament, scheduled for April 12-13 at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Team Hit the Grid-DI from Bridgeland High School won first place in in the Service Learning Challenge.
Team Hit the Grid-DI from Bridgeland High School won first place in in the Service Learning Challenge at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament held Feb. 17 at Dulles High School and Dulles Middle School in Sugar Land. The team is advancing to the Lone Star Finals Affiliate State Tournament, scheduled for April 12-13 at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Destination Imagination promotes team-building for students in kindergarten through 12 grade who form teams of up to seven students to solve a challenge that incorporates imagination, creativity, collaboration and fun. Teams create a skit with props and scenery that involve one of the following categories: Fine Arts, STEM, Project Outreach and Improvisation. Teams place based on their solution to the team challenge, along with their solution to an instant challenge they receive on the day of specific tournaments.

The team is advancing to the Lone Star Finals Affiliate State Tournament, scheduled for April 12-13 at the University of Texas at Arlington.

The following teams qualified for the Lone Star Finals Affiliate State Tournament:

  • Team Imagine Moore from Moore Elementary School placed second in the Technical Challenge;
  • Team Rockstars from Rennell Elementary School placed second in the Technical Challenge;
  • Team Stellar Squad from Warner Elementary School placed first in the Scientific Challenge and won the High Instant Challenge and DaVinci awards;
  • Team Ideas R Us from Warner placed first in the Scientific Challenge;
  • Team Fabulous 5 from McGown Elementary School placed second in the Scientific Challenge;
  • Team The Athenas from Sprague Middle School placed second in the Scientific Challenge;
  • Team V2 from Smith Middle School placed first in the Fine Arts Challenge and won the High Instant Challenge Award;
  • Team Wings of DIre from Truitt Middle School placed first in the Improvisational Challenge and won the High Instant Challenge Award;
  • Team Ask Me from Cypress Ranch High School placed second in the Improvisational Challenge and won the Spirit of DI Award;
  • Team The All-Stars from Smith placed second in the Engineering Challenge; and
  • Team Hit the Grid-DI from Bridgeland High School placed first in the Service Learning Challenge.

Team Wings of DIre from Truitt Middle School won first place in the Improvisational Challenge.

The following teams earned other awards at the regional tournament:

  • Team The Fire Breathing Hamsters from Swenke Elementary School placed third in the Technical Challenge and won the High Instant Challenge Award;
  • Team Calculators from Sprague placed third in the Technical Challenge;
  • Team Cypress Problem Creators from McGown placed third in the Service Learning Challenge;
  • Team The Free Range Fire Extinguishers from Cypress Ranch won a Sprit of DI award; and
  • Team Colt Gamers from Copeland Elementary School won the High Instant Challenge Award in the Fine Arts Challenge.
