Royce Black was chosen as the namesake for Elementary #43. Black spent all 33 of his years as an educator with Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, all at Cy-Fair High School before retiring in June 2005. Black taught social studies, served as a team leader and led the department for 27 years as the chairperson. Other leadership roles include assisting with coordinating social studies curriculum and instruction at the district level. He and his wife, Linda, have three children— Donna, Royce, Jr, and Shawn, who are Jersey Village High School, Cy-Fair High School, and Cy Falls High School graduates, respectively.
