Wells, Ault students place 1st, 2nd in Elementary Spelling Bee

Wells Elementary School fifth grade student Vir Lagad, left, and Ault Elementary School fifth grade student Mahek Ibraheem, right, were named the winner and runner-up, respectively, of the 2024 CFISD Elementary Spelling Bee on Jan. 30. Lagad and Ibraheem will represent CFISD at the Houston Community College Regional Spelling Bee, scheduled for March 23. 

Feb. 1, 2024—Wells Elementary School fifth grade student Vir Lagad won first place by correctly spelling the word nucleated in the ninth round of the annual CFISD Elementary Spelling Bee, held Jan. 30 at the Berry Center.

Ault Elementary School fifth grade student Mahek Ibraheem was the runner-up. Both Lagad and Ibraheem will represent CFISD at the Houston Community College Regional Spelling Bee scheduled for March 23.

Holbrook Elementary School fourth grade student Prema Parker participates in the annual CFISD Elementary Spelling Bee. Parker, along with 56 other campus representatives, were named champions of their respective campus spelling bees. 

“Our 57 spellers did an outstanding job representing each of their campuses at the district level spelling bee,” said Stephanie Fields, CFISD Elementary Spelling Bee coordinator. “The students showcased excellent sportsmanship, spelling ability and positive attitudes, making for a friendly yet competitive night. We are so proud of all of their hard work in marking it to this level of the competition and wish our winner and runner-up the best of luck in the HCC Regional Bee!”

The top two spellers from the regional bee will qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland the week of Memorial Day.
