Why did you choose to live in CFISD?

Knowledge of the high level of public education in Cy-Fair ISD, and wanting my wife, a teacher, to have an awesome career in a well respected district. Always the consideration of our future children to be able to enjoy an exceptional education that would support a strong successful career and life , whatever it might be.

Are you currently a CFISD volunteer? If so, what school(s)?

Yes. Before Covid, I was a regular reader at Sheridan Elementary, Metcalf Elementary, Lamkin Elementary, Keith Elementary and Swenke Elementary. I have also served as Bus Buddy at various elementaries.

Served as Classroom Dad, Reader, Chaperone for my son's classes. A Middle School Mentor, and Served as President of CF High School All-Athletic Booster Club, and CFHS Choral Booster Club. For over 15 years, I would lecture to Texas State College of Education Junior Education Majors about School Boards (educating on the roles of a school board) and in addition, I recruited on the campus and at College night in CFISD for CFISD and Texas State. I have served on the Texas Association of School Boards as a director and now an officer position as 1st VP, previously 2nd VP and Secretary/Treasurer. President and co-founder of Go Public Gulf Coast, an organization that positively promotes public school education in the Gulf Coast area.
I have served on the Board of Directors for the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards.

Considering your skills and talents, what positive contribution would you make as a member of the Board of Trustees?

Very proud of the accomplishments the CFISD Board has made over 16 years as a Trustee. A Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Tx State, three years of teaching some years ago, coupled with my long time career in the Corporate world, and adding volunteerism in the public education arena, I believe that I bring a solid well rounded expertise to the Board. Decision making based on actual experience is definitely a positive.

What are the responsibilities of the Board of Trustees?

As a Board, not to be confused with being an individual, it is the responsibility to set goals and monitor progress, adopt a budget, set policy and procedures, hire and evaluate the Superintendent on a regular basis, and represent and communicate with the community, incorporating transparency and factual information.

What role do positive trustee relations on the Board play in affecting student success?

A cohesive " Team of 8" ( Board plus Superintendent), sets the tone for the entire district. It is never bad to question or have a difference of opinion, from an individual on the Board, but reaching consent, being able to listen and make collaborative decisions , personifies a tone of respect and professionalism from the Board level and will transition positively throughout the entire district.

What critical challenges face the district, and what are possible solutions to address those issues?

Finances are always a critical challenge, as much of our monies are dependent on the State and Federal Legislative intent at any particular time. Almost as challenging, is the amount of misinformation that is shared through media, social media, and etc with little to no concern for actual facts. The diminishing amount of young people desirous of a career in education only exacerbates the problem. Promoting Public Education's successes is a place to start.
